Hello and welcome to the very first appearance of this segment in which (normally) every Friday I will be presenting you the readers with some info, links and Q&A with the featured Live DJ on Plur.Fm's weekly Saturday Live set. This weeks segment is earlier then planned due to the fact I won't be in a area allowing internet to post like planned. So when that situation ever arises I will be presenting earlier such as this weeks. Also normally we want to try to ask 20 questions to the dj so be sure to visit the blogs fb page and leave a question to be asked and featured in the segment! With that being said on with the blog!!
This weeks featured live DJ is Eric Bliss be sure to check out and like his Facebook page! Eric Bliss will be spinning on Plur.Fm 7/10/11. Event info listed here.
Q1. At what age did you get you'r own equipment & start spinning music?
A. Around 18 or 19, a friend bought some decks and they were basically our community decks.
Q2. Who inspired you to want to become a DJ?
A. I loved our local dj's back in the 90s. Dust, 7up, Tim and Ted Zelch, Deep Blue I think his name was, breaks DJ from Youngstown. Seeing them playing so much and having such a good time at it really inspired me a lot.
Q3. When/Where did you play for the first time? Age?
A. For Candy Gang at some show at some roller rink in the Mars area. I played so badly but it was a great learning experience!
Q4. When you pic a medium for a source of music, what do you prefer? (Records, Cd's, Ect.)
A. CDJs for sure! Left vinyl kicking and screaming, but CDJS are much more stable and make a lot more sense for a bouncy, crazy rave environment. I'm over telling kids to settle down when they get excited so things don't skip.
Q5. Whats your favorite game?
A. Pin the tail on the human. It's best if your friends don't know they're playing.
Q6. How did you get your start?
A. Back in the 90s, I just bugged the shit out of Donny and Dave with Candy Gang and played a couple opening slots for them, no biggie. I left the scene for a while between 2000-2005 but when I came back around I just played at as many house parties as I could, went to every event, hung out with everybody, and promoted for everybody. That's the way you gotta do it. Partying with as many people as you can is the absolute best way to get and maintain a following, even if your friends don't like your music they'll still come out and support you.
Q7. What helps inspire you'r mixes?
A. Amazing tracks!
Q8. Whats your opinion about Plur.fm?
A. I think it's an awesome way for local dj's to get their mixes heard. I love being able to stream the parties too. Great asset for Pittsburgh's electronic music scene!
Q9. How do you feel that this blog & segment will help inspiring future DJs?
A. Hopefully the up and comers see how genuinely excited about the music we are and will get the bug to practice their asses off and eventually put themselves out there and do it for a raging crowd!
